Bike rental Oléron FAQ
Your questions,
Your questions,
our answers
Booking, delivery, locks, punctures or repairs: our bike rental Oléron FAQ answers the 19 questions we’re asked most often at the workshop in Saint-Pierre-d’Oléron.
Renting a bike on Oléron
Why rent a bike on the Île d’Oléron?
The island has more than 160 km of cycle paths (full map as a PDF). By bike, you explore the island at your own pace, with no traffic jams and no hunting for a parking space. At Atelier Cyclo’cool in Saint-Pierre-d’Oléron, our bikes are serviced in our own workshop, and breakdown help is included.
Which bikes do you rent?
Hybrids, mountain bikes, e-bikes, tandems, cargo bikes, fat bikes and kids’ bikes (16, 20 and 24 inch). Accessories: baby seats, trailers, helmets and panniers. All prices are in our price table.
Regular bike or e-bike: which one should I choose?
An e-bike is ideal for long distances, headwinds or less sporty riders. A regular bike gives a more traditional ride, and the island is almost completely flat. Both are maintained with the same care.
Booking
How do I book a bike?
Online, on our booking page, at least three days before your start date. You can also drop by the workshop. For a last-minute request, give us a call: we’ll do our best.
Are booking fees refunded if I cancel?
No, booking fees are non-refundable. Make sure of your dates before booking, or simply drop by the workshop.
Delivery
Do you deliver bikes on the island?
Yes, on conditions: delivery is free from €150 of rental and 3 days minimum, subject to an available slot. During busy periods (long weekends, July and August), we only deliver on advance booking: write to us early to secure your slot.
How do I request a delivery?
Email us (atelier-cyclocool@hotmail.com) before completing your online booking. Without a prior request, your booking is treated as a pick-up at the workshop.
When do deliveries and collections take place?
Before 9:30 am or between 6 and 8 pm.
If you deliver, do you also collect the bikes?
Yes. Delivery includes collecting the bikes from the same address at the end of your rental, so you don’t have to go anywhere.
Why is delivery sometimes not possible?
Our team is very small and every delivery has to be planned. If we can’t take on a request, it’s because we’re out of slots, never for lack of goodwill!
During your rental
Are locks provided?
Yes, a lock comes with every rental bike.
What if I get a flat tyre?
Breakdown help is included in the rental price, from 10 am to 6 pm, every day of your rental. If you get a puncture or a breakdown, call the workshop on +33 6 69 24 67 64: we’ll come to you, anywhere on the island.
Are bikes stolen on the island?
There’s no such thing as zero risk. That’s why a lock comes with every bike: used properly, it greatly reduces the risk. Lock your bike at every stop, even for a few minutes.
What happens if the bike is damaged or stolen?
If the bike is damaged, you’re charged for the damaged parts. If it’s stolen, the deposit is cashed to cover the costs.
Repairs at the workshop
How much is a full service?
A full service is €72 incl. VAT for 1 hour of labour, standard repairs included; parts are extra. Details on our repair page.
Do I need an appointment for a small repair?
For a puncture, rubbing brakes or slipping gears, bring your bike, or just the wheel, to the workshop during opening hours: we’ll give you a repair estimate on the spot.
Is the diagnosis charged?
Yes: €25 for a regular bike, €35 for an e-bike. It’s deducted from the bill if the repair is done at the workshop.
Getting to the workshop
Where is the workshop and when is it open?
At 12 rue Dubois-Aubry, 17310 Saint-Pierre-d’Oléron. Opening hours vary with the season: see current hours on Google.
Can I get there by bus?
Yes: the workshop is 300 m from Saint-Pierre bus station, served by regional buses and, in July and August, by the island’s free shuttle (map and timetable on the CdC website).
